The 3rd Annual “All In for the Seminarians” Poker and Casino Night welcomed guests to an evening of gourmet food, delicious craft cocktails, charitable casino gaming tables, a silent auction, and competitive poker tournament. The event benefitted Saint Joseph College Seminary and was hosted, for the first time, in the upstairs of Hugo’s Frog Bar & Fish House/Gibsons Steakhouse on Rush Street. The event succeeded their sponsorship goal and proved to be a big success for SJCS!
Attendees were greeted with craft drinks served by the Deep Eddy Vodka “Betty” Models and passed appetizers of shrimp cocktail, crab cakes, lamb chops, and seared tuna wonton. These endless hors d’oeuvres served as an introduction to the signature buffet which included items such as fried calamari, double baked potatoes, and chef carved tenderloin and roasted turkey. Later in the evening, Gibsons outdid themselves with late night food including cheeseburger and fried chicken sliders and a full dessert spread which featured keylime pie, chocolate mousse cake, carrot cake, mini keylime tarts, and chocolate chip cookies!
The evening’s main event, the Texas Hold ‘Em Poker Tournament, kicked off after a few words from Father Peter Snieg and event co-chairs Jorge Ramirez and Marcy Twardak. Players were stacking chips high all night to win the highly sought after $10,000 grand prize seat at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas! Other prizes for the final table finishers included a 4-day/3-night stay at an Caesars Entertainment Property in Las Vegas, a custom suit and custom shirt from Knot Standard, a 43” Samsung TV paired with an Amazon Echo, just to name a few. In the end, Sam Elsaden, who had the WSOP Seat on his life long bucket list, took home the grand prize!
For guests who were not participating in the tournament, they were able to enjoy charitable casino gaming sponsored by Rivers Casino including Blackjack, Craps, and Roulette tables, a Stack the Deck Raffle winning a private yacht party for 15 guests, as well as a silent auction. As guests earned chips from the tables, they were able to cash them out for raffle tickets to try their luck at winning prizes such as $200 to Hugo’s Frog Bar and Chophouse located at Rivers Casino, Lower Box Seats to the White Sox, Autographed Chicago Bulls memorabilia, and a bed and breakfast package at DeSoto Hotel in Galena.
Thank you to everyone that came out and helped make this evening a success for the Saint Joseph College Seminary. We look forward to seeing all of you for next year’s event!
