Chicago Lighthouse: Raising the Stakes for Vision

The 2nd annual Raising the Stakes for Vision, benefitting the Chicago Lighthouse was held at Hugo’s Frog Bar and Gibsons Steakhouse on March 1, 2018. 

The poker tournament was kicked off by event co-chairs Gary Rich and Jeffrey M. Jackson who introduced Lighthouse President and CEO, Janet Szlyk and Assistant Director, Jim Neitzel. Chicago Lighthouse’s poker tournament was especially unique, as special large print and braille cards were used to accommodate all players. Once cards were dealt, the competition began to win the $10,000 seat at the World Series of Poker Tournament held in Las Vegas which was later won by Ben Ponzio! Other top poker prizes included the ultimate poker stay and play package which featured a four-day, three-night stay at Caesars Palace plus a buy-in to the Chicago Poker Classic event, a custom suit and custom shirt provided by clothing sponsor Knot Standard, and a Rivers Casino March Mania Package including a $200 gift certificate to Hugo’s Frog Bar and Chophouse at Rivers Casino with four tickets to their March Mania Event, just to name a few.

Guests were greeted with signature cocktails by Deep Eddy Vodka and an endless number of appetizers including grilled lamb chops, mini crab cakes, prime angus skirt steak skewers, shrimp cocktail, and bruschetta before the opening of a full buffet with hot items including fried calamari, seasonal grilled vegetables, mini double baked potatoes, and chef carved tenderloin and herb roasted turkey breast. The evening’s endless bites concluded later with a full dessert spread including apple pie, carrot cake, Gibsons signature chocolate mousse cake, key lime tarts, and mini chocolate chip cookies.

Throughout the evening guests gambled their way into a chance to win one of the amazing casino prizes that were up for grabs at the blackjack, craps, and roulette tables. Prizes included an Apple Watch and many fully stock packages such as an ultimate Rest and Relaxation Package, Adventure Day Package, Brews & Tunes Package, and an Ultimate Rivers Casino Package. Guests also had the opportunity to win in the Stack-the-Deck raffle where 52 cards were sold, and the three winners could choose between a Samsung 55” Smart LED LCD TV, a two person tasting menu with wine pairings at Piccolo Sogno, or a Rivers Casino Package with a $200 gift certificate to Hugo’s Frog Bar & Chophouse.
