Although a heatwave was moving through the city of Chicago, that couldn’t stop the Gaming for Green event from being a success! The presenting sponsor, Volkswagen-Honda of Downtown Chicago, had an all-new VW Arteon and a luxury Honda parked on outdoor patio. Guest could enter a chance to win one of the cars by submitting the last 6 digits of their driver’s license; if the numbers matched exactly to the VIN number, he/she would take home a brand-new car! SunFallen, a Chicago rock and roll fueled band, also helped liven the outdoor patio with amazing music and an area for guests to dance the night away. Rounding out the outdoor experience, Aleman Brewery handed out plentiful samples of their amazing beers.
Before starting the highly anticipated poker tournament, guests were able to enjoy complimentary cocktails served by Cutwater Spirits and a full buffet from Galleria Marchetti. The buffet featured many mouthwatering options including a full antipasto spread of select meats and cheeses, pasta with fresh marinara sauce, baked chicken roulades and London broil. Guests indulged in the open bar provided by MillerCoors, Terlato Wines and Cutwater Spirits. After dinner, everyone gathered around as Michelle Stromberg-Ohlhaber, Executive Director of Gateway Green, thanked the generous sponsors. Next, Channel 5’s Meteorologist, Brant Miller and Sports Anchor Jeff Blanzy, gave a few words to the crowd. The poker tournament then kicked off, where nearly 250 poker players came to battle it out for top prizes including a seat at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, a stay at Caesars Palace, or a Chicago helicopter experience.
With poker underway and guests continuing to enjoy the outdoor entertainment, the blackjack, craps, and roulette tables were bustling with guests looking to win one of the evening’s exciting raffle prizes in the casino sponsored by Rivers. This year guests had a chance to win $200 to Hugo’s Frog Bar & Chop House, a CBD package, AceBounce Ping Pong Party for six, and much more! They could also put their bids down in the premium silent auction to win prizes such as Elite Island Resort trips to the Caribbean, Chicago Staycation packages, many amazing restaurant gift cards, and even a painting by artist Jet Lavant who painted it live that night for the guests to see his work in action.
While the poker tournament was wrapping up, guests enjoyed and brownie bites and delicious late-night pizzas. Pete Mazzone ended up taking home first place in the poker tournament!
