On February 24, 2018, nestled in the upstairs of Hugo’s Frog Bar & Fish House/Gibsons Steakhouse on Rush Street in the heart of the Gold Coast Neighborhood, new and familiar faces gathered for the 2018 ISCD Poker & Casino Night. As guests entered, they were greeted with a welcome cocktail served by the Deep Eddy Vodka “Betty’s” consisting of Deep Eddy Lemonade Flavored Vodka and soda. While their excitement for the poker tournament began to build, guests enjoyed passed caprese skewers, seared tuna wontons, citrus cured Skuna Bay salmon, skirt steak and chicken skewers, and spring bruschetta before the opening of a full buffet including broiled Farroe Island Salmon, herb roasted turkey breast, Gibsons Prime Rib, a pasta station, and much more! Later in the evening, Gibsons out did themselves with a full dessert spread including their signature chocolate mousse cake, carrot cake, brownies, key lime tarts, and red velvet and devil’s food cupcakes.
The poker tournament kicked off as Harry Matthew thanked their generous sponsors then Mike Frazin, of Mosaic Construction, stepped into the spotlight to lead a lively fund in need, raising over $15,000. Once it was time to shuffle up and deal, the competition for a shot at winning the $10,000 seat at the World Series of Poker Tournament held in Las Vegas began! Although over 150 players tried to win, only one, Jeffrey Nemetz, was able to take home the highly coveted prize. Some of the other top poker prizes included a four-day, three-night stay at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, a custom suit and custom shirt from clothing sponsor Knot Standard, $1,000 gift certificate to Lester Lampert Jewelers with a two-hour brunch cruise aboard the Odyssey Cruise Ship at Navy Pier, and Chicago Bulls, Blackhawks, and Cubs tickets, to name a few.
For those who decided not to take a seat at the poker tables, they were able to enjoy the evening at the blackjack and craps tables winning raffle tickets which could win them many prizes such as a $200 gift card to Hugo’s Frog Bar and Chophouse at Rivers Casino, autographed White Sox memorabilia, or a foursome of golf at Ravinia Green Country Club. Guests also had the opportunity to get lucky in the Stack-the-Deck raffle where 52 cards were sold, and the two winners could choose between a four-day, three-night stay at the new 5-star Baha Mar Grand Hyatt located in Nassau, Bahamas or a $1,500 Lester Lampert Jewelers gift card.
We’d like to thank everyone that came out and made this event a huge success as the organization was able to raise $100,000 for their cause!
